Trying to recover!

Okay, if you guys remember…I was selected as a delegate to attend Senate District 13’s County Convention on March 29th (this past weekend) in Houston, Texas. It was held at Texas Southern University. An estimated 3,000 or more eager & passionate Democrats showed up for this “history in the making” event…both Obama and Clinton supporters! We were told to be there promptly at 7:30am and to bring food, snacks and tons of patience, because we would be there ALL DAY LONNNG!!

Since I had never experienced anything like this, I began my morning by packing more than too many snacks to munch on as if I was attending a voluntary lockdown. Obviously by now, the anticipation had gotten the best of me! Once I arrived, each delegate had to search for their individual precinct in the midst of the crowded arena. Each precinct was comprised of neighborhoods that predominantly housed African Americans, Houston’s Medical District, Texas Southern Univ. and Rice University folks. Once we were connected with our precinct, the work began. We began caucusing again, and then chose more delegates to go on to Austin!!! My hand did not go up this time (although, I enjoyed the delegate process, I think I’ll cheer from the sidelines next go ‘round)

While choosing our Austin delegates, there were a team of political officials giving speeches throughout the entire day. Among them were Houston’s Mayor Bill White, Senator Rodney Ellis, Congressmen/Congresswoman Al Green and Sheila Jackson-Lee and many many others. Interestingly enough, once Sheila Jackson-Lee started speaking she was immediately “booed” and told to “sit down” for what felt like 10 minutes. I understood the crowd’s dismay since Ms. Jackson-Lee is a Clinton supporter, but the crowd took it to the extreme! C'mon now people...we can do better than that.

Anyway, back to the caucus…during the caucus, there were many challenges brought up, mainly by the Clinton supporters!! Needless to say, my particular precinct voted quite fairly with only a minor glitch, but we worked it all out because we had an outstanding Delegate Chair!! The challenges of other precincts took an enormous amount of time making resolutions and I was beginning to feel like I was in the British House of Commons...."all in favor...stand up....sit down...all opposed...stand up...sit down amongst 3,000 folks!!! ...over and over and over again....sheesh!! Good thing I brought lotsa food, cuz I was exhausted by 6pm!!! What an experience!

Anyway, the best way to explain what really went down is to share a fellow bloggers view…

“The Convention had been in session for about 5 hours by now. Then the mess from HRC campaign started. Keep in mind that on March 4th, this district caucused overwhelmingly for Obama 79% to 21%. However, the Credentials Committee was responsible for bringing any challenges to delegates selected on March 4th. It was suppose to consist of 7 Obama Supporters and 7 Clinton supporters, an even split. As the Credential Committee met, the Obama campaign informed his supporters of the first nasty trick by HRC to disenfranchise Obama voters. Apparently, two Obama people on the Committee LIED, they were really HRC moles. Once selected to the Committee the two alleged Obama supporters switched their support to HRC and tilted the committee to Clinton by a margin of 9-5.

As word spread throughout the convention floor, we were absolutely stunned. As a result of the Credential Committee’s coup, a large amount of challenges were brought against Obama delegates in attempt to disqualify them. We had to vote each challenge down from the Committee one by one on the convention floor. At that point, Obama supporters and HRC supporters were visibly upset and beginning to engage each other heated rhetoric. We just couldn't believe what happened in the committee. To top it off, the HRC supporters voted on the Convention floor to uphold the disenfranchisement of Obama delegates. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE MAJORITY OBAMA CONVENTION TURNED BACK HRC ATTEMPTS TO DISENFRANCHISE VOTERS ON THE CONVENTION FLOOR!

If you thought that wasn't enough, here is the straw that broke the camel’s back. The convention had been in session about 10 hours by now. People were already edgy and grumpy. Also remember the 72yo cancer patient that I brought with me. HRC lawyers moved to ADJOURN the convention because of a lack of a quorum. If successful, this would have invalidated EVERYTHING done not only at the county convention, but at the Caucuses on March 4th where people stayed late into the night. At that point I couldn't even look at an HRC supporter. I was filled with so much rage and ready to give the first one I seen a piece of my mind about their candidate and her tactics. I noticed other Obama supporters’ engaging in shouting matches with Clinton supporters. We were so upset that they attempted to disenfranchise the voters in this heavy African American/Latte Drinking/Prius Driving Yuppie district. Thank God, the Texas Democratic Parliamentarian in attendance ruled that a Quorum had already been established therefore turning back Clinton's request. In the end, we sent 272 Obama delegates, to 69 Clinton delegates despite her campaign tactics. By the way, I'm going to the State Convention in Austin as a delegate.

In closing, HRC can't be our nominee. They say your campaign is a reflection of the candidate. Numerous convention attendees from across the state of Texas are reporting that the Clinton Campaign tried these tricks everywhere. I can't support this unethical witch under any circumstance and many Democrats left the county convention with the same feeling. Hillary is destroying our party. IF SHE WILL TRY THESE TRICKS AT STATE CONVENTION, JUST IMAGINE WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN DENVER. PLEASE STOP THIS WOMAN BEFORE SHE DESTROYS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!”
