A (pastor) friend of mine did a sermon entitled, Although there’s a Recession going on…You don’t have to Participate.” Hmm…I know there’s an affirmation in there somewhere – but you might have to help me with this one.

Job loss is at an all-time high, while the alternatives are at an all-time low. As the Demon of Reduction does a chop chop here and a chop chop there, even getting an advance degree seems like a pyramid scheme. If you’re thinking of some viable options like law school or grad school, I read that many people go to law school and still can’t find a job. Law schools select people who are good with details and pass tests, while law firms select people who are good at marketing themselves and can herd business. So for all you sales reps without a job…there you go! As far as going to grad school or ‘B school’, with this economy it appears you’d only be delaying the inevitable again anyway. Ahh…but wait; maybe you can join the military! You know… “Bad Economy = Join the Armed Forces, right? You decide!

One thing is for sure…today, right now, right here…I don’t think you can duck or dodge the recession. It is a participatory event in this country. Whether you have a job or lost one – the economy is stimulated and ruled by our spending trends, and with 5 million Americans out of work – you’re better off using the aforementioned sermon as a state of mind, rather than a state of the economy.

Comments appreciated, sorry Rev, (smiles)

I have had the same kind of "sermon" on at least (2) occasions. We are in the world but not OF the world. The recession is having some affect on everyone. I chose NOT to participate either, but what is GOD'S real purpose in allowing these things to happen?

It's ALL supposed to make "US" better in some way. This whole thing was caused by GREED and that is the one thing that will never go away. As long as their are "MEN", there will be greed and others who suffer.

BUT GOD......BUT GOD....BUT GOD..
